Headaches...What can I do?

Headaches are one of the most common complaints for which patients seek chiropractic care.  Headaches are also a "quality of life" killer.  Think about it, how many days a week, month or year do you lose to headaches?  It may be time for help.

Chiropractic care can be especially helpful with headaches.  Often times, applying pressure to the back of the neck during a headache can cause pain to radiate into the head and eyes.  This is because of the nerves that exit the spine in the upper neck region.  When chiropractic treatment is applied, a reduction of symptoms occurs because muscle tension decreases and joint motion is restored.

The most common type of headache is a tension headache.  These typically last minutes to days and occur off and on.  They are usually classified as mild or moderate and rarely severe.  Tension headaches are often described as a tightness (not throbbing) and rarely have an "aura" (pre-headache warning more common with migraines).  With a tension headache, it is unusual to have stomach sickness and/or a reaction to bright light (often seen with migraine and sometimes cluster headaches).

At SouthEast Chiropractic: The Motion Centers, treatment for a tension headache would typically include manipulation and mobilization of the neck, muscle release techniques, acupuncture, and other modalities, such as, electrical stimulation.
